MID CENTURY MODERN FRENCH BRONZE CAR AUTOMOBILE MASCOT HOOD ORNAMENT

MID CENTURY MODERN FRENCH BRONZE CAR AUTOMOBILE MASCOT HOOD ORNAMENT

This beautifully made antique bronze bird is artist signed "M. Burton" who was known for making bronzes in the early to mid 1900s.  It is also marked "Made in France"  and bears the posh retailer's name "Nil Melior New York" who's shop was located inside the landmark hotel, Waldorf Astoria, on Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. This retailer described themselves as being exclusive motor car accessories headquarters. This finally made bronze was in good company with French R. Lalique crystal.automobile mascots and so much more in the exclusive retail showroom for New York's wealthiest visitors in the age of the automobile. Stylistically, this bird would fit very nicely in an Art Deco collection and also in a mid century modern setting. During the 1930s and 40s these two styles often overlapped. This bronze bird has a small track on either side that would slip into a rail on top of a car hood as a unique hood ornament chosen by the owner of the car rather than the car manufacturer. Very unusual! Very hard to find! Excellent condition. Measures 4 1/4 inches tall.

HP 92 VINTAGE 1977 HEWLETT-PACKARD INVESTOR FINANCIAL CALCULATOR IN BOX

The HP-92 was the business/financial model of the series and featured an improved Time Value of Money solver that could compute any of the basic five financial values given four known values. (For many problems, only three known values were needed.) It also provided depreciation using declining balance, straight line, or sum-of-the-years-digits methods and accounted for book value and salvage value.

Like the HP-80, the HP-92 included bond price and yield, but it added call price, coupon amount, and issue, settlement and maturity dates. Also new were Internal Rate of Return calculations, and switches to select 365 or 360 day year calculations and begin/end of period payments.
The HP-92 had a large amount of storage space. There were 20 general purpose registers (0-9 and .0-.9), 10 separate dedicated summation registers, and the dedicated financial registers.

Printer Functions

The printer was controlled by a three position sliding switch. The positions were:
  • Man: The printer remained idle except when the user invoked a print function.
  • All: The printer printed each number entered, each function and each result.
  • Norm: Like All, but the printer didn't print each result. Useful when doing long chain calculations.
In addition, there were a number of keys dedicated to printing:
  • Print x: Printed the X register.
  • List SUM: Printed the 10 summation registers.
  • List Stack: Printed the four level stack.
  • List Reg: Printed the 20 general registers.
  • List Finance: Printed the financial registers.
The HP-92 was based largely on 20 Series technology. In addition, it added LED drivers for the larger display, and a new Printer Interface Control & Keyboard buffer circuit (PICK). Unlike the handhelds, the desktop machines used a light feeling keyboard well suited for rapid data entry on the desktop.

Mid Century Modern Art Tile, Harris Strong

We at Gannon's Antiques, are very proud of our remarkable selection of mid-century modern art tile.  This may be the most comprehensive collection of Harris Strong Art Tile, certainly in this area!  Mr. Harris Strong was a chemical engineer who did extensive research in high temperature glazing which caught the attention of architects who promptly made him famous in this genre. When his studio burned in the early 70s destroying his precious formulas, he never made another piece. As you can imagine, his pieces are quite collectable now. See them at Gannon's Antiques.

ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER 1885 RUSSIA CANDLESTICKS CANDLE HOLDERS

We just acquired these fabulous antique sterling silver Russian candlesticks from a descendent of the original family who purchased them before the turn of the 19th century!
The beauty and quality of these candleholders echo a bygone era when craftsman were artists and time was taken to make wonderful heirloom quality pieces.
These candlesticks feature three-dimensional grape vines and beautiful leafy repoussé designs.
They were made in 1885 and clearly bear the silversmith's hallmark of Teodor Warner and Sons who lived in Minsk.
They were made in the Victorian age which was transitioning to Art Nouveau. Elements of both styles can be found within these beauties.  The assayer's mark is of Josef Sosnkowski whose office was in Warsaw/Bapwasa. These are 124 years old and in surprisingly good condition standing tall and straight at 11 1/2 inches. There are small dings around the top edges and perhaps elsewhere that are well hidden within the ornamentation. These candlesticks exude old world charm and would be a magnificent addition on a well appointed dining room table!
